William Gene Scott

William Gene Scott, 85, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at his home on January 5, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Davis Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Chris Baucom officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 PM prior to the service at Davis Chapel. Born January 22, 1940, in Lancaster County, South Carolina, William was the son of the late Willie Louis Scott and Ruth Fay Eubanks Scott. He retired after many years of dedicated service as a truck driver with the State of North Carolina. William will be remembered by his family as a loving and honest man with a quick wit and an outspoken, genuine nature. To many, he was more than a brother or uncle—he was a second father, a trusted voice, and a generous soul who would give freely of his time and heart. Known as a natural wheeler and dealer, William had a special talent for turning the simplest finds into something valuable, and he thoroughly enjoyed buying, selling, and the swap shop. He found joy in fishing, listening to country music—especially George Jones—and watching classic westerns. Above all, he was a good man who spoke plainly, lived honestly, and left a lasting impression on those who knew him. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Jane Brooks Scott, who passed away in 2017; his sons, Ronald Gene Scott and Michael Louis Scott; his brothers, Hayward Eubanks, Louis Scott Jr., Carol Scott, and Harold Scott; and his sister, Sylvia Arrowood. He is survived by his brothers, James Scott of Monroe and Robert Scott of Mt. Holly; his sisters, Judy Bumgarner and Vickie Allison, both of Mt. Holly; his nieces Susan Scott Tyson and husband David, Pam Crump and husband Brian, Misha Rushing and husband Brent, all of Monroe, Tammy Carver of Mt. Holly; and his nephews, James Allen Scott and husband Brian of Monroe and Bobby Scott and wife Crystal of Dallas. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the hospice caregivers, especially Tawanda Haynes and Lauren Parker, for their compassionate care and kindness.
