Terry Mel Thomas

Terry Mel Thomas, 65, of Stanfield, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center. A service to celebrate Terry's life will be held at a later date. Born on July 30, 1960, in Albemarle, North Carolina, he was the son of the late George Sylvester Thomas Jr. and Gladys Morrison Thomas. Terry was a highly skilled master plumber whose strong work ethic and dedication to his trade earned the respect of all who knew him. A man of deep faith, he lived his life with humility, kindness, and a servant's heart. Terry will be remembered as a hardworking, selfless, and intelligent man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was loved by many and was known for his generous spirit, often giving freely of himself to help others. Though a simple man at heart, his impact on those around him was profound. Family and friends admired his unwavering dedication, his quiet strength, and his willingness to put the needs of others before his own. In his spare time, Terry enjoyed mechanic work, riding four-wheelers, and spending time in his shop. His favorite songs were "Free Bird" and "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd, a song that held special meaning for him and his family. In one final moment that those who loved him will never forget, Terry passed peacefully after a prayer offered by the hospital chaplain while surrounded by his loving family. As the family left the hospital together following his passing, "Free Bird" began playing, providing a comforting and memorable reminder of the man they loved so dearly. He is survived by his children, Tracy Thomas (Sarah Hale) of Stanfield, Tina Thomas (Cody Shutt) of Locust, Torie Thomas of Odenton, Maryland, Esco Bebber of Stanfield, and Brandy Byrd (David) of Albemarle; partner Myra Bebber, his sister, Debbie Honeycutt (Mike) of Concord; his cherished grandchildren, Gavin, Corbin, Branson, Paisley, Colton, and Waylon, and his nephews Andy, Ben, and Matt. He also leaves behind his faithful companions, Brutus, his beloved dog, and Short Stuff, his cherished cat, who brought him comfort and companionship through the years. Terry's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him. His life was marked by faith, hard work, generosity, and love for others, and he leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.
