Sherry Daniel Lowder

Sherry Daniel Lowder, 74, of New London, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. A Celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Bethel Methodist Church, with Rev. Kevin McCormac officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the church. Sherry was born June 23, 1952, in Stanly County to the late James and Edna Lowder. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 56 years, Deborah Talent Lowder. Also left to cherish his memory are his children, Sheri McGuire (Michael), James Lowder (Audrey), and Matthew Lowder (Teri); grandchildren, MaKenna McGuire, Sarah Lowder, William Lowder, Benjamin Lowder, and Grace Lowder; brothers, O.J. Lowder (JoAnne), Donnie Lowder (Sarah), and Kim Lowder (Dana); aunt, Carolyn Thompson; and mother- and father-in-law, Peggye and Bill Talent. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Louis Lowder, and sister, Melinda Lowder. Sherry was a faithful and devoted member of Bethel Methodist Church, where his servant’s heart was evident in the many ways he cared for others. He taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and especially enjoyed visiting the sick and shut ins. A man of deep faith and prayer, Sherry faithfully served as a member and treasurer of The Gideons International for many years. Nothing compared to the love Sherry had for his family. He was a constant source of encouragement to those he loved and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. Time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, brought him tremendous joy. Above all, Sherry never met a stranger and truly enjoyed being around people. He loved sports and just about anything that gave him an opportunity to be outdoors, especially golf and softball. He was also a devoted NC State fan. Sherry lived his life with a servant’s heart, a steadfast faith, and a genuine love for others. His family and friends will remember his warm spirit, his encouragement, and the way he faithfully showed up for the people around him. Though he will be deeply missed, the love he shared and the example of faith he leaves behind will continue to live on in the lives of all who were blessed to know him.
