Roy L. Curlee

Roy Curlee passed away on 11/22/2020 at the age of 92. He was born in Stanly County to Lonnie and Margie Curlee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Maxine R. Curlee, a son, Donald Curlee, twin sister Ruth C. Smith and son-in-law, Johnnie Marshall. He is survived by daughter, Audrey Marshall, granddaughter Megan M. Kroeker and husband Jon, along with two great-grandchildren Dylan and Holden Kroeker also surviving is his dog and best friend, Buck. Roy and his wife were long time members of Kendells Baptist Church. He served our country during the Korean War and upon returning home from Europe, attended and graduated from Pfeiffer College with a teaching degree. He taught in different capacities until retirement. It was so important to Roy to remain as independent as possible and to remain in his own home, on his own terms. It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child, but Roy?s neighbors and friends gave it their all to help ensure that he remain in his own home, enjoying life to the fullest. He was able to accomplish this until the last hospitalization and journey because of the love and generosity of neighbors and people in the community volunteering their time and efforts out of love. Robin and Tom Rogers, Carolyn and Rex Faust, Trina and Eric Morris, Johnand Sharilyn Lowder, Sam and Beverly Harkey, Melissa Burris, David Moose and the staff of LuLu?s grill are just a few that contributed routinely. For several years, Robin and Tom Rogers provided meals daily among many other tasks and once the pandemic took over 2020, Carolyn Faust provided morning meals daily to Roy while she and Rex volunteered other needed tasks as well. This care and attention provided to Roy is a prime example of a village caring and investing in enriching the life of an older person. Hopefully this will inspire others to consider reaching out to their elderly neighbors and to pay this love, care and generosity forward. At this time, there is no service planned due to pandemic. A small gravesideservice will be held at a later date.
