Lois Thompson Carroll

Lois Thompson Carroll, 99, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at the Union County Hospice House, surrounded by the love of her family. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Davis Chapel, with Pastor Larry King officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Davis Chapel prior to the service, from 10:00 until 10:45 AM. Born on January 14, 1926, in Birmingham, Alabama, Lois was the daughter of the late Jessie Lee Haywood and Lizzie May Maulsby. After a long and dedicated career in the textile industry, she devoted her life to faith, family, and music. A longtime member of Memorial United Methodist Church, she lovingly played piano for the prelude and offertory during services, blessing others with her God-given gift of playing beautifully by ear. Lois lived her life guided by the words of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” She embodied these verses every day. She was patient and kind, always gracious and giving, with a heart open to everyone she met. Lois had a special gift for making people feel at home. She loved hosting her children’s friends when they were young, especially the neighborhood boys who gathered to play baseball nearby—always making sure no one left her home hungry. Lois found joy in playing the piano, cooking family favorites, and sharing her generous spirit. She believed that love was best shown through small, thoughtful gestures, and no visitor ever left her home without receiving something—be it a warm meal, a kind word, or one of her radiant smiles. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wallace Carroll, in 1994. She is survived by her sons, Johnny Carroll of Monroe and Billy Carroll and wife Robin of Mint Hill; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two children, Wally Carroll and Tina Baucom. Lois’s family finds comfort in knowing that her faith, her music, and her boundless love will live on in the lives she touched and in the example she set for all who knew her.
