Karen Lynn McDaniel

Karen Lynn McDaniel went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 13, 2026. Born on April 14, 1964, Karen grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina, and graduated from Northeast Guilford High School. Throughout her life, Karen was known for her servant’s heart, strong work ethic, joyful personality, deep friendships, and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. Karen discovered her passion for serving others early in her career in telecommunications with the Guilford County 911 Division. Her compassion for people and commitment to helping her community were evident in everything she did. After faithfully serving Guilford County and advancing to a supervisory position, Karen continued her career in public safety by moving to Albemarle, North Carolina, where she served as Director of the Stanly County 911 Communications Division. Karen’s work was more than a career—it reflected who she was. She cared deeply about people, especially those who served their communities, and understood the importance of being a calm and dependable presence when others were facing some of life’s most difficult moments. Following her retirement in 2017, Karen continued finding ways to serve. She assisted the Albemarle Police Department as needed and later brought her dedication, professionalism, and warm personality to her work as an administrative assistant at Edward Jones Financial. To truly know Karen was to love her. She loved traveling with friends, visiting museums and exploring her love of history, gathering for game nights, going out to eat, shopping, and occasionally finding herself in a little harmless mischief during one of her memorable “Lucy and Ethel” adventures. But more than the places she went or the things she enjoyed, Karen treasured the people with whom she shared them. Her friends became family, and she loved them deeply. As an adopted “Auntie Karen” and “Grandma Karen,” she delighted in having a special place in the lives of the younger generation. She celebrated their lives, enjoyed their adventures, and loved simply being part of their world. Karen had a way of making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved. Her laughter, friendship, generosity, and unmistakable personality will be deeply missed. Above everything else, Karen loved her Lord. Her faith was not simply something she talked about—it was something she lived. After receiving her diagnosis, Karen was quick to express her desire to do whatever God wanted her to do. Even as the journey became difficult, she chose to trust Him. She truly praised God through the storm. Even while experiencing pain, Karen continued attending church and worshiping whenever she was able. Her determination to praise God in the middle of suffering became a powerful testimony to those around her. Karen reminded all who knew her that faith does not mean we never face storms; it means we know Who walks with us through them. She finished her journey with the same faith that shaped her life—trusting the Lord she loved and looking forward to the home He had prepared for her. Karen will be remembered for her warm heart, steadfast faith, and commitment to serving others, fierce love for her friends and family, and the joy she brought into the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, friendship, service, laughter, and love that will continue to inspire those who knew her. Karen was preceded in death by her father, J. Harvey McDaniel, and her mother, Vida Lou Maness McDaniel. She is survived by her sister, Renee’ McDaniel of Greensboro, North Carolina. Karen also leaves behind an extended family and cherished circle of loved ones who became family through the years, including Tina Albano of Delaware; Theresa Long of Norwood, North Carolina; Ron and Kelly Loflin of Albemarle, North Carolina; Brison, Amelia, and Mason Helton of Morganton, North Carolina; Erin Loflin of Albemarle, North Carolina; and Jenson Elam, Ellie and Tyson Goodman, and Archer Long of Norwood, North Carolina. A Celebration of Life for Karen will be held Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 4:00 PM at Uwharrie Community Church, 1510 Moss Springs Road, Albemarle, NC 28001. Family and friends will receive guests immediately following the service. In true Karen fashion, those attending are encouraged to wear purple and add a little bling—because that was Karen. Karen’s family and circle of friends wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare professionals who provided exceptional and compassionate care throughout her journey, including Dr. Ansari at Levine Cancer Institute, Dr. Magee at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and the staff of Tillery Compassionate Care. A special thank-you is also extended to the ladies of Uwharrie Community Church, affectionately known as the “Sitters for Karen,” whose presence, love, time, prayers, and devotion provided comfort and companionship when it was needed most. In lieu of flowers, Karen requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Uwharrie Community Church (1510 Moss Springs Road, Albemarle, NC 28001 and designated for either Operation Christmas Child or the Great-Day-Give-A-Way, or to Tillery Compassionate Care (960 N First Street. Albemarle, NC 28001) Karen’s life was marked by serving others, loving people well, laughing often, and trusting Jesus through every season. And while those who loved her will deeply feel her absence, they grieve with hope—knowing that the faith Karen held onto so tightly has now become sight.
