Judith Romain Buchannon

Judith “Judy” Romain Buchannon, a woman whose life was marked by unwavering faith, sacrificial love, and devoted service to others, peacefully entered into her heavenly home on May 26, 2026. There, she experienced the long-awaited reunion with the love of her life, her husband, Drewey Wayne Buchannon, who preceded her in death on March 25, 2011. Their love story, rooted in faith and commitment, now continues eternally in the presence of the Lord. Judy was a faithful and cherished member of Abundant Life Holiness Church, where she worshiped steadfastly under the pastoral leadership of her son, Rev. Cecil Buchannon. Her life was a testimony of holiness, humility, and dedication to the work of God. She faithfully supported her church from its beginning and was known as a pillar within the congregation — always willing to serve, encourage, pray, and give of herself to further the Kingdom of God. Even in her final days, her heart remained focused on eternity, as some of her last words on this side of heaven were spent inviting others to church and encouraging them to make Heaven their home as well. “3 John 1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Drewey Wayne Buchannon; her mother, Redith Stevens; her father, Bill Stevens; and nephew, Jeffery Stevens Left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy are her 7 children: Rex (Brenda) Stevens of Monroe, NC; Rev. Ricky (Lorri) Lester of Townville, SC; Richard (Lisa) Lester of Gilbert, WV; Wendell “Bubby” (Jana) Lester of Albemarle, NC; Rev. Cecil (Joan) Buchannon of Badin, NC; Lisa (Densil) Lester of Monroe, NC; and Donna (Chaddrick) Starr of Badin, NC. She also leaves behind a treasured legacy through her grandchildren: Kenneth, Jennifer, Codey, Corey, Katie, Joshua, David, Caleb, Little Rick, Josie, Hunter, DD, Tali, Ani, Taylor, Emilee, Riley, Ava, Levi, Asher, and Miracle; three honorary grandchildren Parker, Gabriel, and Jordan; along with nine great-grandchildren Skyler, Adalynn, Weston, Cohen, Emersyn, Brooks, Lyla, Samuel, and Cheyenne whom she dearly loved. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her brother, Rev. Larry (Patsy) Stevens of Vernor, WV. Judy’s life was defined by servitude. For many years, she faithfully worked third shift at Monroe Rehabilitation Center, retiring in 2012 after dedicating herself to caring for others during their times of recovery and need. Yet her greatest ministry was found at home and within her family. She gave selflessly, often doing without herself so others could have what they needed. Her kindness, compassion, and giving spirit reflected the love of Christ in everyday life. To know Judy was to know a woman who loved deeply, prayed faithfully, served tirelessly, and believed wholeheartedly. Though she will be greatly missed here on earth, Heaven is sweeter because she is there. “Proverbs 31:28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Funeral services will be entrusted to Stanly Funeral Home and will be held Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 12:00 PM. Services will be officiated by Rev. Cecil Buchannon, Rev. Kevin Bloomfield, and Rev. Noah Phillips. Judy will be laid to rest at Suncrest Cemetery in Monroe, NC beside the love of her life, awaiting that glorious resurrection morning. 2 Timothy 4:7-8: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness…”
