Joseph Junior Blakney

Joseph Junior Blakney, 56, of Wingate, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, surrounded by the love that filled his heart. Joseph’s big bright smile came into this world on March 8, 1969, in Union County, N.C. when he was the fifth son born to his loving parents, Dr. Louis Blakney, Jr. and Rev. Jessie Mae Thomas Blakney. As early as his young hands could maneuver, his natural gift for fixing things developed. His God-given talent grew into a lifelong career as a respected and sought-after home repair specialist. This led Joseph to start his own company and name it, Little Joe’s Home Repair Inc. His hands built more than just homes, they built trust, relationships, and a legacy of service throughout his community. When you saw his blue Chevy work truck pulling up in your driveway, you knew quality, professionalism and a personal touch had arrived. Joseph was a faithful member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Marshville, NC, where he found both spiritual strength and fellowship. Not only did he use his gifts and talents inside the church walls to lead devotion service, he also became a trusted confidant and buddy to his late pastor, Rev. J.N. Coble. He cared for the widows and elderly especially, but where Joseph saw the need, he also completed many repair projects around the church building. He gave generously of his time and heart to the brotherhood of Marshville Masonic Lodge #270, where he proudly served as Past Worshipful Master and past Secretary. He was installed earlier in 2025 to the Grand office of Worshipful Assistant Grand Director, Initiatives Outreach Department. His brotherly commitment extended to his Eastern Star sister-chapter, Hope Chapter #455B, where he served as Past Worthy Patron and past Secretary. Joseph was also a member of Poston Chapter #50, Hiram Abiff Council #3, and Paul Poston Commandery #6. Joseph was also an active Shriner of Rameses Temple #51, Oasis of Charlotte, Desert of NC, where his footprints in the sand carried the spirit of brotherhood and service. There is no doubt, to know Joseph was to love him. He never met a stranger, and his warm smile and easy conversation left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Whether he was cracking a joke, lending a hand, or sharing his wisdom, he had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued. Above all, Joseph was a devoted family man. He shared 30 beautiful years with his wife and truest best friend, Teresa Michelle Tinsley Blakney. Together they raised four children who were the pride of his life: their oldest daughter Takeema Blakney of Stone Mountain, GA; their son Jonathan Blakney of Saint Louis, MO; their middle daughter Shashauna Owens and her husband Jonathan Owens of Grifton, NC; and their baby girl Shakyla Blakney of Wingate, NC. He also leaves-in-love, three devoted brothers: Roger Blakney (Phyllis); Broadus Blakney (Angelia); Shelton Blakney (Patricia); one older sister Redeial Barbour and his closest baby sister and friend Debra Blakney. Joseph also leaves two grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and many other young people he took under his wing. All of them brought him endless joy and kept his heart young. Joseph's legacy lives on in the many lives he touched with his kindness, his laughter, his craftsmanship, and above all, his love. He will be deeply missed, always remembered, and forever celebrated.
