John Parrish McIntyre

John Parrish McIntyre, 68, of Albemarle, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, at First Presbyterian Church of Albemarle, officiated by Pastor Joel Lynn. Burial will follow in Elk Creek Cemetery in Sparta, NC. Born on August 3, 1957, in Moore County, North Carolina, John was the son of the late George McLean McIntyre and Johnsie Ruth Gambill McIntyre. John attended North Carolina State University and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a bachelor's degree in business. A faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, John devoted much of his professional life to serving others through the banking industry. He retired from Uwharrie Bank after many years of dedicated service and had previously enjoyed a successful career with First Citizens Bank. More than anything, John valued relationships. He took great pride in helping people, supporting his community, and making a positive difference in the lives of those he encountered. John will be remembered as a generous, loyal, loving, and thoughtful man whose warm personality drew people to him. He never met a stranger and was often the life of the party, quick with a smile, a story, or a laugh. His kindness, caring spirit, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on all who knew him. A devoted Christian, John's faith was a cornerstone of his life and guided the way he lived, worked, and cared for others. He embraced life with enthusiasm and found joy in the simple things. An avid supporter of North Carolina State University athletics, he rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Wolfpack. He loved the outdoors and treasured time spent hunting, fishing, canoeing, golfing, and exploring the mountains and beaches of North Carolina. Some of his family's favorite memories include adventures on the New River, attending Wolfpack football games, and spending time together at the beach. He enjoyed beach music and could often be found dancing to the sounds of The Catalinas, The Embers, The Temptations, and his favorite country songs. Whether at Myrtle Beach or gathered with friends and family, John loved to shag dance and celebrate life's blessings. Above all else, John was a devoted father and grandfather. He took tremendous pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren and found great joy in watching them grow and succeed. He was their biggest supporter, always encouraging them and celebrating their achievements. In recent years, attending his grandchildren's sporting events became one of the most important parts of his life. Whether cheering from the sidelines, sitting in the stands, or talking with family after the game, he treasured every opportunity to be present. The love he had for his family was evident in everything he did, and the memories they shared together will remain a lasting gift to those who loved him. John's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his daughter, Meredith McIntyre Curran and husband, Matt, of Matthews; his son, John Robert "Rob" McIntyre and wife, Catherine, of Albemarle; his sister, Lynn McIntyre Burleson and husband, Niven, of Albemarle; his brother, George McIntyre and wife, Tina, of Raleigh; and his beloved grandchildren, Brody Curran, Gabe Curran, Isabel McIntyre, Robert McIntyre, and Spence McIntyre. Also surviving are 2 nieces and 3 nephews many cherished cousins and his beloved golden retriever, Otis. John's legacy of kindness, generosity, faith, and love for family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
