Cornelia Drye Brown

Cornelia Drye Brown, 82, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel in Albemarle. Burial will follow at Palestine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Cornelia was born on December 14, 1943, in Stanly County to the late Floyd and Estelle Drye. She is lovingly survived by her children, son Chris Brown and daughter Teri Brown (Donald); grandchildren, Ayla Perkins, Oliver Perkins, Lydia Brown, and Allen Brown; siblings, Wendell Drye, Danny Drye (Joann), Kim Bartley, and David Drye; and sister-in-law, Betty Drye. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Jerry Thompson, Sr., and her brother, Sherrill Drye. Cornelia was a devoted mother whose love and support for her family remained constant through every season of life. No matter the circumstances, her family could always count on her encouragement, understanding, and caring presence. While being a mother brought her great joy, she especially treasured her role as a grandmother and the time she shared with her grandchildren. Naturally caring and generous, Cornelia had a heart for helping others and faithfully supported many charitable organizations throughout her life. She also expressed her love for those around her through cooking. She enjoyed preparing meals for her family, experimenting with new recipes, and bringing everyone together around the table. For Cornelia, caring for others was not simply something she did; it was a reflection of who she was. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Cornelia will be remembered for the steadfast love she gave her family, her generous spirit, and the kindness she extended to others. Her greatest legacy will live on in the family she cherished so deeply and in the countless ways she made those around her feel loved and cared for. Though her place at the family table will be deeply missed, the love she poured into those gathered around it will remain for generations to come.
