Raymond Joseph Miller

Raymond Joseph Miller of Albemarle, North Carolina passed away quietly February 20, 2025, surrounded by his family. Raymond was 95 years old, just one month short of his 96th birthday. He was born March 19th, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan to Elizabeth (Elsie) Bohr and Samuel Clyde Miller (New London, NC). He was a 1947 graduate of New London High School. In 1952 Raymond was called to serve his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was trained at Fort Bliss Army Post, in El Paso, Texas. After his initial training he was selected to train other soldiers to operate and maintain the newly developed Nike Missile System located at White Sands, New Mexico. After his military service, he was employed at Alcoa Aluminum in Badin, NC as an electrical engineer and gained experience with two-way radio equipment. Having a keen aptitude for electronics and two-way radio equipment, he worked at home in the afternoon and evening hours growing his own two-way radio service. He terminated his employment with Alcoa after 19 years to focus entirely on his growing business, Two Way Radio. He retired at 65 years old and sold his business. Raymond maintained a very active life after retirement. He had a keen interest in motorcycles. For many years he owned many Harley Davidson Motorcycles. He traveled extensively crossing the United States with friends and family members. He enjoyed restoring antique motorcycles, some of which received national recognition. He was a member of and actively involved in the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. He also was known for his interest in antique automobiles. He owned and restored an early model Ford Thunderbird which he kept for many years. He was an active member in the T-Bird Club of North Carolina. Raymond is preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruby Talbert Miller, his parents Elsie and Sam Miller, brothers Larry and Gerald Miller, and grandson William Pearson. He is survived by three daughters, Cathy (Glenn) Pearson of Concord, NC, Janet (Danny) Maywald of North Richland Hills, TX, and Sharon (David) Beach of Keller, TX. He is also survived by two sons, Frank (Bernadette) Miller of Pinellas Park, FL, and Brent Miller of Albemarle, NC. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Maureen Echols of Warner Robins, GA, brother, Douglas Miller of Albemarle, NC, Thomas (Josephine) Miller of Long Island, NY, sister-in-law Louise Miller of Albemarle, NC brother-in-law Larry Talbert (Ginger) of Aiken, SC and sister-in law, Yvonne Miller of Vienna, VA. Funeral Services for Raymond Miller will be held on February 27th at 2 PM at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care Chapel in Albemarle, NC. Graveside will follow. Family will be receiving friends Wednesday night, 6-8 at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care.
