Maggie Blutreich

Margaret Angeline Vournazos Blutreich, 78 years of age passed away peacefully after a battle with cancer on August 25, 2019. A wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, educator, mentor, dog (animal) enthusiast leaves behind two sons, Nathan (55) and Peter (51), 2 granddaughters, 4 grandsons and one great grandson as well as her brother, nieces, and nephews still residing in Ohio. During her battle with cancer she remained positive and independent up until the last days. The family thanks friends who looked after her and Union County Hospice for their care. Maggie was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, in December of 1940 and claims roots both to the bear hunters of Tennessee and to the Greeks of the Peloponnese (Sparta). Obviously this combination creates a unique individual. The Vournazos family in Ohio established the successful Patio and Cameo Restaurants, and later the Stone Pipe Inn. Growing up Maggie had a love for animals and showed horses. Maggie would meet her husband Kim at Ohio University. Kim was an international student from Greece. After marriage and the arrival of their first son, Nathan, the family lived in Greece for 2 years before returning to the states. Peter would join the family while they lived in Ohio. Maggie was an involved mother, volunteer, and community member. The family moved to NC in 1980. Later when the family decided not to move from NC the decision was made to again bring back the family history. Cameo Video here in Monroe, NC would involve the family for years serving the community here, and was a wonderful time for all involved. In the mid 1980's the family became involved in the dog show world. As dog enthusiasts the family showed Dalmatians and later Beagles. Often the dogs would join the family at the video store. Maggie educated herself along the way, championing responsible pet ownership, as well as being involved and holding leadership positions in area associations. She was proud to be a certified dog trainer (BRAVO force free training) and was recognized nationally for her work. She often did educational workshops in schools. Maggie enjoyed writing and wrote a monthly column for the Enquirer Journal for years. Maggie's unique background and willingness to always learn from and educate others are hallmarks of her life. We hope you got to enjoy her unique sense of humor and independent "do it yourself" attitude. She cared deeply for her family and friends up until the last and would not want those that cared most for her to worry about her. As she lived and to those that learned, laughed, cried, and cursed with her up unto the last she stated "to those who love and miss me they may do so when I am gone". Permission now is granted.
