Larry Dorton

Mr. Larry Gene Dorton, age 68, of Pageland, SC, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021, surrounded by his loving family at Atrium Health Main. Memorial services to honor Larry's life will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, September 24, 2021 in the H. Vann Davis III Memorial Chapel of Davis Funeral Service, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC, 28112, officiated by Rev. Frank Crump. The family will accept friends from 6 - 7:00 PM prior to the service. Larry was born on August 7, 1953 in Union County, NC, a son of the late Odell Dorton and Mary May Green Dorton. A carpenter and salesman for Stallings Salvage, Larry was a simple man who appreciated the small moments in life. He enjoyed fishing, a Sunday afternoon nap in his chair, and was always sincere and authentic to who he was. A man of few words, Larry had a memorable sense of humor that would bring laughter to anyone. His gentle and kind spirit made everyone around him feel safe and secure. Larry and Deborah found a connection in each other and married on August 8, 1971. They raised two daughters and instilled the importance of family in each of them. Always supportive, Larry stood behind his family and friends. He was the anchor that held the Dorton Family together and the center of their world. By a pond under the biggest tree, Larry is waiting to see all those he loved again someday. Until that day comes for each of them, his words of "I love you, Monk" will continue to remind everyone of his everlasting presence and wonderful memories. Those left to carry-on Larry's legacy include his wife of 50 years, Deborah Medlin Dorton; his daughter, Micca Smith (Aaron); his daughter, Melinda Locklear (Frank); four grandchildren, Austin Locklear (Fiancé Miranda), Elizabeth Smith, Laramie Locklear, and Nicholas Smith. Survivors also include his brother, Jerry Dorton (Jan) and his sister, Fran Strider. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Debra Moree.
