Janet W Flanner

Mrs. Janet W. Flanner, age 69, of Monroe, NC, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Atrium Health Main. A memorial service for Janet will be held 6:00 PM, Thursday, June 24, 2021 in the H. Vann Davis Memorial Chapel of Davis Funeral Service, 1003 E. Franklin St., Monroe, NC, 28112, officiated by Rev. Mike Mullis. Janet's family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 5:00 PM. Janet was born July 13, 1951, in Wilkes County, NC, a daughter of the late John Burton Williams and Hazel Ashley Williams. Janet moved to Union County as a young child, and called Monroe, NC home throughout her life. With 40 years of service as an Assistant Clerk to the Superior Court, Janet was a dedicated civil servant with a strong work ethic. In December of 2012, Janet was the recipient of the most prestigious award presented by the Governor of North Carolina to citizens of our state; The Order of the Long Leaf Pine. This honor is awarded to persons for exemplary service to the State of North Carolina and their communities that is above and beyond the call of duty and which has made a significant impact and strengthened North Carolina. Janet loved her work, her community, her state, and above all else, her family. A wonderful wife and loving mother, Janet thought of everyone else's needs before her own. She also took the time to instill the importance of a strong work ethic in her sons. Remembered by her loved ones as a simple woman who did things her own special way, Janet was prepared for anything and family was everything. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her and her legacy will not be forgotten. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 33 years, Michael "Mike" Flanner, her sons; Matt Coan (Megan) and Brad Coan (Lindsey), her sister, Sheila Foster (Stanley), her niece, Ashley Cox, her nephew, Austin Haigler, and her seven grandchildren; Carly Rose Coan, Prestin Tate Coan, Brayden Riley Coan, Peyton Delaney Coan, Gage Hayne Coan, Addison Faith Coan, and Hayden Blair Hunter.
