Ellen Taylor

Mrs. Ellen Neil Phillips Taylor, age 88, of Marshville, North Carolina, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at her home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 7, 2016, at Mount Harmony Baptist Church, 2817 Mount Harmony Church Road, Matthews, North Carolina 28105, officiated by Dr. Buddy Pigg and Reverend Neal Lickliter. Interment will follow in the Mount Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Taylor was born on April 17, 1927, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Vernon Neal Phillips and Leona Moser Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. R. (Buddy) Taylor, a son, Gary Reid Taylor, two brothers, John T. Phillips and Bill Phillips; and three sisters, Kathleen Killough, Willie Poythress and Mary Jane McCachren. Ellen was a devoted wife and mother, who always put the interests of others above her own. She was a very patient and humble lady that loved unconditionally. She enjoyed tending to her garden and sharing the fruits of her labor. She spent much of her time caring for family, friends and neighbors in their times of need. Survivors include her daughters, Vera High and husband Joel and Pam Rutherford and husband Ron, all of Marshville; daughter-in-law, Doris Taylor, also of Marshville; two sisters, Ruth Parnell of Mint Hill, and Katie Griffin of St. Augustine, FL; one brother, Claude Phillips (Sue) of Concord, CA; eight grandchildren, Angie Surratt (Bobby) of Monroe, Paula Edwards (Larry) of Marshville, Stephanie Rutherford (Jamar Gillespie) of Wingate, Shane Rutherford (Keri) of Harrisburg, Ronnie Rutherford (Jennifer) of Huntersville, Brent High (Sandy) of New Salem, Scott High of Crawford, GA and Lynn High (Elizabeth) of Polkton. There are 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Saturday afternoon, February 6, 2016, at Davis Funeral Home, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112.
