Dr. Daniel Sturdivant

Dr. Daniel Sturdivant, son of Martha H. Sturdivant and the late Willis E. Sturdivant, Sr., was born June 27, 1957 in Union County, North Carolina. On Friday April 17, 2015, at home in Leesburg, Georgia, God dispatched an angel to seal his lips and give peace and rest to his soul. At an early age he joined Walker Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wingate, N.C. Up until his illness he attended New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. Dr. Sturdivant, was an educator and principal of Dooly County Middle School. Dr. Sturdivant was also the marching band drill designer for several bands in Georgia and South Carolina. He attended East Union School in Marshville, N.C. and later graduated from Forest Hills High School, Wingate, N.C. Received music degrees from Wingate University (BME) in Wingate, North Carolina, and the University of South Carolina (MME), Columbia, South Carolina; Master of Arts Administration from Florida State University, and Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Argosy University. Dr. Sturdivant was a member of Tau Beta Sigma Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha Fraternities. Some of his accomplishments: Dooley County Middle School received Title I Distinguished School award for three years and Adequate Yearly Progress for five years. Dooley County Middle School received the Superintendent School Distinguished Achievement award for improvements in 8th grade science and the United States Department of Education selected DCMS as one of only 19 schools in the county to participate in an on- site survey researching 'Sustaining School Improvement,' to name a few. Dr. Sturdivant, as an educator has inspired students to stay in school, work hard for their grades and make the decision to go on to college or careers and fulfill their dreams. As a son he has honored and assisted his mother. As a brother he has always been there for love and support, as an uncle always there for advice, as a friend for whatever the needs were, he was there to meet them. He leaves to cherish his friend Malcolm Jackson of Leesburg, Georgia; His mother Martha Hammond Sturdivant of Wingate, North Carolina. Two brothers, Willis E. Sturdivant, Jr. (Carolyn) of Wingate, North Carolina, Kenneth Sturdivant of Homer, Louisiana; three sisters, Ruth E. Sturdivant of Monroe, North Carolina, Carolyn Thomas, and Barbara Houston (Jonathan) both of Wingate, North Carolina; eighteen nieces and nephews; two aunts, Ruby McClain (John), Rosetta Sturdivant both of Wingate, North Carolina; three uncles, John R. Hammond (Dorothy) of Wingate, North Carolina, Bunyan Sturdivant of Pageland, South Carolina and Grady Taylor of New York and a host of other relatives and friends.
