David Lee Deese

Mr. David Lee Deese, age 81, of Marshville, NC, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at CMC-Union. A Celebration of Life for David will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Faulks Baptist Church, 2234 Faulks Church Road, Marshville, NC, 28103, officiated by his friend and Sunday School teacher, Arthur Taylor, and Rev. Frank Crump. Interment will follow in the Faulks Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and loved ones between 12:00 PM - 1:45 PM on Saturday, prior to the service. For those who wish to pay their respects prior to visitation, Mr. Deese will lie in state from 11:00 AM until noon in the Faulks Baptist Church Sanctuary. David was born June 22, 1937, in Union County, North Carolina, a son of the late Frank Deese and Florence Woodard Deese. Mr. Deese was a truck driver for Lance, Inc. for 41 years prior to driving for Arbor Fields. Although David was a truck driver by profession, he was a farmer at heart. His farming not only consisted of multiple crops, but livestock as well. A deacon and lifelong member at Faulks Baptist Church, David was a pillar of the community who was not only well known, but well loved. He believed in keeping things simple, but his generosity was limitless. Each Wednesday night, he always looked forward to the gathering of his family for a weekly dinner, even throughout the weeks of his illness. Sunday lunches with family were always important to David as well, but he would always excuse himself early to unlock the South Union Gym for the weekly Sunday afternoon basketball game with family and friends. A man of strong faith, who was also a strong competitor on the court, David played full-court basketball until the age of 77. Described by his family as a man of his word who always put others first, David will be warmly remembered and deeply missed by his family. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, JoAnn Deese of Marshville, NC, a daughter, Cindy Mangum (Wiley) of Marshville, NC, a daughter, Kim Edwards (Garry) of Indian Trail, NC, a sister, Lib Williams of Monroe, NC, a sister, Phyllis Griffin of Wingate, NC, a grandson, Jeremy Bartlett (Nicole) of Bluffton, SC, a grandson, Weston Mangum of Marshville, NC, a granddaughter, Natalie Mangum of Monroe, NC, a granddaughter, Kaycee Edwards of Indian Trail, NC, a grandson, Robert Edwards (Alaina) of Monroe, NC, a granddaughter, Anndreá Hubbard (Kevin) of Indian Trail, NC, and 8 great grand-children; Ava Bartlett, McKenna Bartlett, Zoe Mangum, Joseph Steed, Nathaniel Edwards, Alexandria Edwards, Jason Hubbard, and Janeé Hubbard. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by brothers; Bruce Deese, Steve Deese, John Thomas Deese, Eugene Deese, Horace Deese and sisters; Ruby Siket, Marie Teeter, and Kathleen Lee.
